Who Am I?
- I am an American male, born in the mid-to-late 1980s.
- I remember the Time Before the Internet.
- Life has been mostly good so far. I am happy for all the people I have met along the way. There remain many mysteries.
What is the Purpose?
- Of this website? Merely to write about things I find interesting at a given moment, which I feel somehow inspired to record.
- The posts here vary in type but are meant to be:
- more formal or thought-out than most writing we do today (like text messaging apps)
- more open, loose, and 'free' than typical formal essay writing, as for a class or as journalism
- more 'private' than Facebook, which I seldom use for posts. Clarification: While this site is wide open to the world -- even available freely in China (I know this because some "dot cn" people have linked to me) -- there is a large psychological barrier, in that one has to make the effort to come and read in the first place. In this sense, humble little Yule-Tide.com is much more 'private' than Facebook. I like to refer to this site as my "quiet corner of the Internet," which is more comfortable.
- more 'public' than mere personal thoughts or conversations,
- more long-lasting than other forms of writing of this kind I have done in the past, so long as my commitment to keeping this site up remains.
Further Info:
- If you don't know me at all, or if there are large gaps in your knowledge about me, you can find a kind of dispersed outline of my life from 2007 to Present at a parallel site I've set up, http://yuletyde.wordpress.com. Nominally a list of all posts since 2013 (some good, some maybe less good) in one central location, it is also a kind of informal "living CV" describing what I was doing at different stages.
- The determined person can learn a lot about me, about my thinking, from some of these posts. I'm not sure which those are so feel free to refrain from asking.

Q-and-A
Q. Why "Yuletide," anyway?
A. You've made a mistake with this question. It's "Yule-Tide" -- That's Yule, hyphen, Tide, dot com. It's important that you get this right. If you bungle the URL, you'll end up at one of the many rival Yuletide sites or blogs out there. One is for a business supply company in Tennessee (sorry guys).
Q. Why "Yule-Tide"?
A1. Oh, don't worry, it is fine to call it "Yuletide" in general. It's just a URL thing.
A2. The origin of the name? Those who know me will be able to figure it out. If you're stumped, you probably don't know me well. But ask me in person and I promise to tell you.
Q. Was it always 'Yuletide'?
A. No. It was originally yuletide5142 (the digits of a phone number I had from 2011 to 2013). Then it was Yuletyde.com. Currently it is Yule-Tide.com.

Banners
I made several crude efforts at making a banner for this site in the early days before settling on the current one. Here are two previous versions:

Description of pictures
Top-left: A cartoonicized version of me.
Bottom-left: A Korean tree
Center: Roadside scene in Paju(?), 2012
Center, bottom: A view of Ilsan, my one-time home
Right: A path in Central Park n Bucheon.
Right, bottom: The view from out my window in Bucheon.
Rightmost, bottom: Street view of my Bucheon apt building.
Quite a Korea-focused banner. This is not, was never meant to be, a "Korea blog," though it times it has been defacto.

Thanks for reading.
